About the bench

Birch Lane is two people, one sewing frame and a guillotine older than both of us.

We started binding notebooks for friends who complained that good paper only came in ugly covers. The Europe side of the shop works out of a courtyard workshop in Riga, where every book is folded, sewn and trimmed by hand.

How a batch is made

Paper is cut to grain, folded into signatures and left under weight overnight. Sewing takes a day, covers another. We measure in millimetres and reject anything that does not open flat.

Wholesale

We supply a handful of independent stationers. If you run one, write to hello@birchlane.top and tell us about your shelves.
